Firefighters battling blaze at northwest Omaha home

The Bennington Fire Department was fighting a blaze at a house in northwest Omaha Thursday morning.

They were called to the area of Potter and North 144th Streets just before 5 a.m.

Authorities say that no one was taken to the hospital.

Two Omaha men arrested in connection to deadly Lincoln shooting

Police arrested two Omaha men Wednesday in connection to a recent shooting that left a 24-year-old man dead and another man injured.

The incident, which happened outside of a downtown Lincoln bar in Sept., led to the arrests of Kavion Wright, 23, and Gregory Bahati, 30.

Wright was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and two counts of second-degree assault.

Bahati was arrested on similar charges for suspicion of aiding and abetting.

Lincoln Police say the events that led to the shooting are being investigated.

Search for Bellevue suspect continues Thursday

Bellevue Police are asking for the public’s help in finding an “armed and dangerous” shooting suspect.

Di’Quarius Merritt, 29, is wanted on charges of first-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and prohibited possession of a gun.

He is the suspect in a shooting at a Family Dollar store in Bellevue on Aug. 28. Witnesses say they saw him run from the scene.

Decision 2024: Early voting begins in Iowa

The polls are now open in Iowa through Nov. 4. Long lines of voters were reported in Des Moines.

“400 voters came through in the first 2.5 hours, and they’re expecting 2,000 to cast their ballot by day’s end. That’s 500 more than they usually get on the first day,” Reporter Conner Hendricks says.

Iowa voters that are getting a mail-in ballot will have to return it by the time polls close on election day -- 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Both Iowa and Nebraska voters must provide a valid ID to vote due to a new Voter ID law.

Deadline to register to vote in Nebraska coming up

For both Douglas and Sarpy Counties, the last day to register to vote online is Friday, October 18.

In order to register to vote by mail, it must also be postmarked by Friday.

Voters can register for in-person voting at their county election office until 6 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Tim Walz rally time released for Omaha visit

The Harris campaign announced Sunday that Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz is vising Omaha on Saturday.

It is Walz‘s second trip to Nebraska this election season. He campaigned at La Vista’s Astro Theater in Aug.

His rally is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. The location of his the event has not yet been released.

In August, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance attended a fundraiser event in Omaha.
