OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha teen is facing charges in court in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that took place Tuesday.

Christopher Renteria-Avila, 18, was booked into Douglas County Corrections Wednesday for “leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death,” according to police.

After his first court appearance, Renteria-Avila was formally charged with Failure to Stop & Render Aid/Serious Injury or Death, a Class 3 felony.

Renteria-Avila is facing up to 4 years in prison if convicted. His bond is set at $200,000.

Renteria-Avila’s preliminary hearing will be on November 22.

Officers say they found the suspect vehicle, a blue 2005 Pontiac Vibe, was driven by Renteria-Avila.

The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Abbott Drive and Riverfront Drive.

After an investigation, police believe that the man was walking in the right eastbound lane of Abbott Drive when he was hit by the vehicle. The vehicle then fled the area.

The name and age of the victim have not yet been released.

The investigation is still underway.
