Teen arrested in connection to fatal hit-and-run near downtown Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Police have made an arrest after a pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday evening near downtown Omaha.
Christopher Renteria-Avila, 18, was booked into Douglas County Corrections for “leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death,” according to police.
Officers say they found the suspect vehicle, a blue 2005 Pontiac Vibe, was driven by Renteria-Avila.
The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Abbott Drive and Riverfront Drive.
After an investigation, police believe that the man was walking in the right eastbound lane of Abbott Drive when he was hit by the vehicle. The vehicle then fled the area.
The name and age of the victim have not yet been released.
The investigation is still underway.
