OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A state championship is sweet, but revenge is even sweeter.

Millard West captured the Class A baseball state title Friday night, defeating Lincoln East, 4-3. The win avenges the Wildcats loss to the Spartans in last year’s championship. The win marks Millard West’s second state title in the last three years.

The Wildcats got on the board first via a third-inning JD Moffet RBI single. Moffet would score on a Mike Valdivia triple to make it 2-0. A fourth-inning Nick Venteicher infield single scored another to stake Millard West to a three-run advantage.

Lincoln East was no wilting flower, however. The Spartans loaded the bases in the bottom half of the fourth. Owen Laessig worked the plate, drawing a walk to force home East’s first run. Mason Gaines followed up with an infield dribbler along the third base line, scoring another run to cut the Millard West lead to just one run.

After escaping the frame, the Wildcats added an insurance run via a sixth-inning sac fly. Jackson Williams tagged at third and scored to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

The Spartans had one last rally. Husker baseball commit Troy Peltz clubbed an infield hit to score Kai Burkey and put the tying run on base. Millard West would steady themselves, getting the ground ball to second to end the threat and seal the win.
