OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Wildcats star shortstop Tyson Lewis was picked in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati with the 51st overall pick and plans to begin his professional baseball career and sign with the Reds, forgoing playing college ball at Arkansas.

Lewis is now the highest-picked position player drafted straight out of high school in Nebraska state history. He’s also the first Nebraskan drafted out of high school since Hastings pitcher Sam Wibbels was picked in the 36th round by the Nationals in 2016.

The Nebraska native wrapped up his senior year of high school baseball with a team-high .496 batting average, .579 on-base percentage, 31 stolen bases, 53 runs, 62 hits, 41 RBI, and eight home runs while also leading Millard West to their second state title in three years.

Millard West shortstop Tyson Lewis commands the spotlight—and for good reason.

Lewis committed to play college ball at Arkansas back in January of 2023, however, after being picked in the second round the left-handed batter will pursue his pro career instead.
