Athlete of the Week: Gretna’s Anniston Trevarrow
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Dragons center fielder Anniston Trevarrow started her senior campaign with a bang, helping lead top-ranked Gretna to a Bellevue East Tournament championship in the first weekend of the season.
“I think it gives a lot of confidence going into the season,” said Trevarrow. “We just came together as a team.”
Against defending Class A champions and No.2 ranked Papillion La Vista, Trevarrow went two-for-three with three RBI helping lift the Dragons to a 13-1 win in just three innings.
“As she goes we kinda go,” said Gretna softball head coach Bill Heard. “She brings an energy that’s contagious and I think the rest of our kids really feed off that when she’s going.”
She may not be very vocal, however, in her fourth year in the program Trevarrow has found her own way of leading.
“Anniston is a quiet kid. She’s a quiet leader. It’s not about being loud and being boisterous and wanting attention,” said Heard.
“This season my main goal is to leave the jersey in a better place for when I go on to wherever,” said Trevarrow. “I think that’s really what everybody in my senior class is focused on.”
