OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - 6 News Daybreak has the headlines you need to know to get your Wednesday started.

Woman in hospital after shooting near Fontenelle Park

One woman is injured after a late night shooting close to Fontenelle Park in North Omaha.

Police responded to a “shots fired” call just before midnight Tuesday near Taylor and North 48th Streets.

The call was upgraded to a shooting when OPD arrived.

Officers tell 6 News that they found the victim, a woman in her 30s, outside of a home.

The woman was taken to the hospital.

Decision 2024: Officials to share information on election security

Officials are meeting Wednesday to discuss election security ahead of Nov. voting.

A release says that the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office will speak on challenges facing the country this election season.

The US Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Jen Easterly, will be at the event.

Easterly has reassured Americans that there is no chance that a foreign adversary can change US election results.

The news conference will be hosted by UNO’s National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE).

The event is set to start at 12:45 p.m.

Coverage of hit-and-run suspect appearing in court Wednesday

The suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left an 89-year-old man dead will appear in court Wednesday morning.

Christopher Dunning, 31, was arrested in Lincoln on Saturday in connection to the accident after fingerprint analysis.

The victim, Walter Tighe, was hit and killed by the suspect vehicle, a Chevy Silverado, as he was walking to church.

A woman that was dating Dunning said she gave him a ride after the accident. Another woman he was allegedly dating told police that he was dropped off at her house without his truck.

Motorcycle club in North Omaha causing concern

Police are speaking out after a recent homicide near Los-Diablos Motorcycle Club in North Omaha.

The club has been open since 1957. Data shows that first responders have been dispatched to the motorcycle club more than 200 times since 2019.

At the latest shooting that left 37-year-old Alexander Whitcomb dead, police say hundreds of people were seen running from the club.

The Omaha Police Officers Association says the group is a “magnet for violence.” They call for the location to be shut down.

But, a spokesperson said that the club is in “...full cooperation with law enforcement to resolve this issue.”

Hurricane Milton forecasted to make landfall Wednesday

AP reports that time to evacuate is running out as Hurricane Milton closes in on Florida on Wednesday. The hurricane is expected to hit major cities in Florida.

In their latest update, OPPD says they are staying in the southeast as Hurricane Milton approaches. Power restoration crews are headed to Florida after Milton hits the area.

OPPD says that its crews will stay in a safe location until the storm has passed and it’s safe to begin work.

Nebraska Task Force 1 has deployed additional members to help with searching for and rescuing victims of Milton.

Omaha contestant of ‘The Voice’ coming back Wednesday

DREION, Omaha native and contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” will be making a stop in the metro Wednesday.

The singer earned a four-chair turn after his “blind” audition on Sept. 30. He chose Snoop Dogg as his coach for the season.

He will be visiting with choir students at Morton Middle School, his old school, as well as Omaha Northwest.

“I will be back to give that live experience to the audience there in Omaha,” DREION said. “Bring it back and go back and see all of my amazing teachers and friends and family and supporters...”

DREION is set to perform at the Holland Music Club on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
