ANDERSON, Ind. (KCRG) - Officials say a plane that took off from Iowa Friday morning crashed and burst into flames in an Indiana cornfield, killing the four people onboard.

Capt. Darwin Dwiggins with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office tells WTHR the single engine plane took off from Fort Dodge about 6:45 a.m. It was supposed to land at the Anderson airport around 10 a.m. The plane crashed about a half mile southeast of the airport about 9:45 a.m.

Dwiggins says the plane was trying to approach the airport when the pilot was told the plane was too high and to re-route. Witnesses say they saw the plane nose-dive into a cornfield and burst into flames.
