GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A private jet made a safe landing Friday morning at Central Nebraska Regional Airport after experiencing landing gear issues, according to airport officials.

Grand Island firefighters were placed on emergency standby shortly before 8 a.m. after the plane’s left landing gear malfunctioned, said Mike Olson, executive director of the airport.

The 2001 Cessna 560, which had departed from Blair and was headed to Grand Island, circled the area nearly 10 times before landing, according to planefinder.com.

Olson said the plane circled to burn off fuel as a precaution in case of a crash. Once enough fuel was depleted, the pilot was able to safely glide the aircraft onto the runway.

The pilot and one passenger on board were not injured.
