David's Evening Forecast - Another run at 90 to close out September
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Temperatures dipped into the low 50s and upper 40s once again this morning, so we briefly had some fall-like weather, but it did not last as full sunshine quickly warmed us up. Temperatures shot up into the mid and upper 80s across the region, topping out between 86 and 90 degrees for most of the area. We will stay very warm through the early evening, but it should start to cool off as we approach sunset.

The relatively dry air that is still in place along with the clear skies and light winds will mean another quick cool-down tonight. We should dip back into the 60s by 10pm, with lows by Monday morning falling into the upper 40s and low 50s, the coolest readings in western Iowa. Monday will bring another very warm day sunny skies and dry air combine once again to quickly heat up. Temperatures likely top out around 90 degrees by the afternoon, which may be the warmest day of the week.

The forecast for Monday remains dry, which virtually guarantees that we will end up with the driest September on record for Omaha with only 0.09″ of rain having fallen at Eppley Airfield downtown. Some areas did pick up more rain than that, but it has been a very dry month for the entire area, and that is not likely to change any time soon meaning drought conditions will only continue to worse.

A cold front will move through Monday night and briefly drop temperatures for Tuesday back closer to average, with highs in the lower 70s. However, the late summer warmth quickly returns with highs back into the mid and even upper 80s by Wednesday and Thursday, lasting into the upcoming weekend.

All signs continue to point to a very warm and dry weather pattern sticking with us into at least the first week of October, if not through the middle of October. Average temperatures will cool into the 60s by mid-October, so we should slowly cool down, but the above average trend likely means plenty of more days with highs in the 80s. Drought conditions will likely continue to worsen as there is little to no rainfall potential through at least the next 7 to 10 days.
