OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Nearly 90 school teachers are returning to the classroom, with word that their salary is going up 13%.

The Omaha Catholic School Consortium announced the raises Wednesday, as teachers returned for workshops.

Retention rates have been low since the pandemic, but their statement says that Consortium schools have a retention rate of 92%.

“Our teachers dedicate themselves to Catholic education, and we are pleased to be able to incorporate such a significant raise. We value our educators and believe that fostering a positive, supportive and collaborative culture for both staff and students sets our six schools apart,” said Shannan Brommer, executive director. “The ability to maintain a remarkable teacher retention rate is a clear indicator of a dynamic and engaging educational environment. It is our hope that this salary increase, combined with our ongoing commitment to professional growth and collaboration, will deliver an ever higher quality, faith-based education for all our students.”

In addition to the raises, the Consortium instituted changes to their academic calendars to allow for more staff collaboration days.
