LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The University of Nebraska board of regents has approved moving into the design phase for an expansion of Nebraska Medicine.

Project Health, a $2.19 billion health care facility, will serve as a learning center and a place to conduct research and clinical trials.

Project Health will also serve as the primary in-patient hospital for Nebraska Medicine.

The project is planned to be built at the corner Saddle Creek and Farnam on the empty 7.5 acre lot. It is the largest project in program history.

“To meet both the needs of rural and urban areas of our state, UNMC must grow professional learner enrollment by 20 to 25%,” UNMC Interim Chancellor Dr. Dele Davies said. “This will be possible only with significant improvement of our physical environment.”
