HULL, Iowa (KTIV) - A Northwest Iowa man is facing attempted murder and arson charges after two people were sent to the hospital.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Jorge Gomez-Badillo of Hull is facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, arson and burglary.

The charges stem from a stabbing and house fire reported on Monday, Oct. 14 in Hull.

Sometime before 3:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office says they got several 911 calls reporting a disturbance at 5th Street and Division Street.

When deputies arrived, they found three people involved in the disturbance. The sheriff’s office says two of them had stab wounds and they were taken to a local hospital to be treated. Authorities have not released their current conditions.

According to court documents, Gomez-Badillo is accused of entering the victims' home and stabbing them. At one point, Gomez-Badillo allegedly pursued the victims outside the home and continued assaulting them.

In court documents, authorities say Gomez-Badillo admitted he went into the victims' home “to take care of them for a crime he observed them commit.” A 3-year-old was reportedly in the home when the assault happened.

Gomez-Badillo was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m. and a short time later deputies reported seeing black smoke coming from a nearby home. Court documents say the house on fire was Gomez-Badillo’s.

Shortly before the disturbance was reported, at about 3 p.m. on Monday, authorities say Gomez-Badillo went live on Facebook and smoke could be seen in the background of the video. It is suspected Gomez-Badillo started the fire intentionally.

Throughout the investigation, authorities say Gomez-Badillo was hostile towards law enforcement and medical personnel.

“[Gomez-Badillo] attempted to send a threatening message stating he was going to kill a family while being evaluated at the hospital. [Gomez-Badillo] threatened to kill the medical [doctor] and stated he wanted to kill a deputy,” said authorities in court documents. “Gomez-Badillo told corrections officers he was homicidal when being booked into jail.”

Gomez-Badillo is currently being held in the Sioux County Jail. Below is his full list of charges.

  • Two counts of attempted murder
  • First-degree burglary
  • Second-degree arson
  • Interference with official acts
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of cannabidiol (THC oil)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.

More charges may be filed in this case.
