Man was drunk when he stole city of Lincoln pickup, sheriff’s office says

A man was arrested Tuesday after Lincoln Police say he stole a vehicle owned by the city of Lincoln.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office released additional details Wednesday regarding a stolen City of Lincoln pickup truck.

Don Steinshouer, 56, is accused of stealing a pickup from a Lincoln Wastewater Department employee while he was inside a north Lincoln gas station Tuesday morning. LPD said the employee had left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.

Lincoln Police used a GPS device to track the stolen pickup to southwest Lancaster County. With assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and LSO, authorities located the pickup near Sprague and boxed it in.

The driver, later identified as Steinshouer, was arrested on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking, third offense aggravated DUI and driving under revocation. The sheriff’s office reported he tested at .248 BAC while at the Lancaster County Jail.
