Child on scooter hit by SUV near Irving Middle School, police say

A child on a scooter was hit by an SUV near Irving Middle School on Friday morning, according to Lincoln Police.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A child on a scooter was hit by an SUV near Irving Middle School on Friday morning, according to Lincoln Police.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue, along with police, responded to South 22nd and Lake Streets just after 8:50 a.m. A scooter was spotted beneath the SUV and a black bag was on the ground nearby.

Police said a 12-year-old boy was riding his scooter to Irving Middle School when he was hit by the driver of the SUV. He was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver will not be cited, police said.

Irving Middle School Principal Rachael Kluck-Spann sent out a letter to Irving families after the incident.

The area was taped off during the investigation.
