Athlete of the Week: Skutt Catholic boys basketball’s Brock Scholl
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Skyhawks boys basketball is soaring on cloud nine.
“It’s something I’ve dreamed of my whole life,” junior center Brock Scholl said.
Skutt Catholic pulled off back-to-back state championships Saturday in a 70-63 win over Norris.
“It’s unreal, it’s really just indescribable,” head coach Kyle Jurgens said. “It’s just the culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of people.”
Scholl was one of them, setting the tone early with a breakaway dunk to start Skutt on a 7-2 run.
“After I got that dunk to start it off, I felt like that just got that crowd going,” he said. “It got us all hyped.”
After turning in a nine-point third quarter, Scholl began the fourth with a lay-in to put the Skyhawks in front, 49-39. But the Titans had one last counterpunch, stringing together a 9-0 run to pull within one with four minutes to play.
“We just needed to take a deep breath and calm down,” Scholl said.
He provided an immediate answer with a short jumper through a double-team, two of his 22 points to go with 12 rebounds in the win for the Skyhawks.
“He was the guy that he’s been all year for us and a huge part of why we’re here,” Jurgens added.
“It’s for sure a great feeling,” Scholl said. “After all the hard work we put in. With the hard road we had to get to the championship, and then to win it, it was a great feeling.”
