OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Jett Thomalla put in the work. It’s paying off this fall.

“I feel like I’ve made a big jump putting on weight, making reads. Watching film with coach Wisdom in his office. I’m not guessing anymore,” he said. “I’m just feeling a lot more comfortable on the field.”

In the junior’s second go-around as the Patriots’ starting quarterback, head coach Ty Wisdom is seeing the difference.

“He had a great offseason, great summer and it’s led into a good start to the season,” he said. “I see a guy that continues to want to learn and work each day.”

That progress was on display in Week 2, when Thomalla threw six touchdowns in a 56-0 win over Millard West.

“I’m just a quarterback that has six options that I can throw to,” Thomalla said. “I can just look anywhere I want and I just know someone will be open.”

“That’s the great thing about football, it’s the ultimate team game,” Wisdom said of the lopsided win. “It takes all 11 to make a play happen and he understands that.”

The college offers haven’t come rolling in for the 6-foot-4 field general, But Thomalla is using that as motivation.

“When you see those other kids getting offers, it makes you want to work a little bit harder each day,” he said.

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter until you sign on the dotted line in December of your senior year,” Wisdom said. “Right now, we just talk about the controllables.”

Like putting the blinders, to focus on leading Millard South on the path towards their first state title since 2009.

“I just try to take a day-by-day approach, get one percent better week-by-week, game-by-game and see how far it can take us.”
