Athlete of the Week: Elkhorn South football's Landon Tate
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Landon Tate is Elkhorn South’s do-it-all athlete.
“We’re all big believers in all three phases of the game,” head coach Guy Rosenberg said. “He’s a guy that’s made big play on offense, defense and special teams.”
That was on display in last week’s 38-0 win over Lincoln North Star. On offense, Tate caught five passes for 97 yards including a 56-yard touchdown. On defense, the senior caught a pick six and forced a fumble in the lopsided victory.
“Landon is always ready, and when you’re ready you don’t have to get ready,” Rosenberg said. “I thought that was exceptional, him being ready to go.”
“Obviously a lot of right things had to happen,” Tate said. “But I trusted my training and abilities and made some good plays. I have to thank my coaches for getting me out there, coaching me up and getting me in the right space mentally and physically to be able to make those plays.”
Colleges are looking at Landon as a safety, but he’s more than willing to keep playing both sides of the ball, should the opportunity arise.
“I would more describe myself as an athlete,” he said. “That’s what I’d prefer to do at the next level, for sure.”
