Nebraska tornadoes: Omaha contractors trying to keep up with workload
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It’s been nearly two weeks since the April 26 tornado outbreak. Home repair businesses like Home Pride Contractors are working hard to clean up storm damage.
“We’ve seen definitely an increase in calls regarding storm damage which isn’t unusual,” said Brent Mencke, the operations manager for Home Pride Contractors. “We’ve seen multiple systems come through that have caused hail, wind damage, and tornadic damage.”

How to help — and find help
Here are ways you can assist those in Nebraska and Iowa who are recovering from tornadoes that hit on Friday, April 26.
On Thursday, Mencke inspected a homeowner’s roof that was damaged by hail in La Vista. He and his team have done work in Bennington and Elkhorn in addition to their regular workload.
“We have our current customers that we’re working with that may or may not be related to this recent storm damage,” Mencke said. “They may have damages that occurred last season that we’re out inspecting or already contracted do those repairs.”
Dave Vogtman, a local builder with the Metro Omaha Builders Association, is also busy. He’s been helping people who recently bought homes that were then affected by the storm.
“Very clearly a lot of the buyers to the south of our neighborhood in Ramblewood and some other areas have had a significant impact,” Vogtman said.
Despite the increased need in the community, Mencke and Vogtman believe they’re handling it well.

Where to dispose of debris from recent storms
Several debris collection sites are available in Douglas and Washington counties.
“When we see an increase in calls we tend to allocate some of our personnel to receive those calls,” Mencke said.
“The Metro Omaha Builders Association is meeting with the city council next Tuesday to see what we can do as an organization to help buyers rebuild quicker,” Vogtman said.
While they both don’t expect any delays to their current customers, they’re asking the community to still be patient.
If you’re in need of home repairs you can find a local contractor through the Better Business Bureau.
