MARBLE HILL, Mo. (KFVS/Gray News) — A new police chief will take over in a Missouri city after the current chief and all current members of the force announced their resignations earlier this week.

According to the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, all current members of the Marble Hill Police Department submitted their resignations on Monday, which are reportedly effective on Friday.

According to a post on the Marble Hill Police Department’s Facebook page, the Chief of Police, Kristin Nenninger, said they are resigning because they cannot “faithfully support” their police officers or the citizens of Marble Hill because the city is “putting constraints on the budget and cutting into the police budget.”

Attempts to contact Nenninger for comment have been unsuccessful.

Marble Hill City Attorney Richard Whiffen said Wayne Hampton will be the interim chief, effective Friday night.

Whiffen said the city has also received several applications and phone calls about the open positions. He said a number of volunteers have reached out to help temporarily while the city hires new officers.

“The city council is working on this issue as hard as they know how,” Whiffen said.

“I don’t know why the chief is doing this,” he said of the chief’s Facebook post. “The budgets are always a concern, and I simply don’t know why the chief is leaving.”

Whiffen said city leaders are concerned about the situation but don’t want the community to worry.

“They are actively working to make sure that there’s adequate police protection for Marble Hill,” he said.

The sheriff’s office said they are in communication with city leaders to address the situation and to help ease concerns in the community.

In a Facebook post, Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham said his office is “confident” a resolution can be negotiated and his office will provide the City of Marble Hill with law enforcement services “without interruption or interference in the daily operations.”
