BLAIR, Neb. (WOWT) - The City of Blair had some good news Friday about a boil order issued there a day earlier.

On Wednesday, officials announced that the city’s water had tested positive for E. coli.

Public works personnel flushed fire hydrants and sample stations to remove contaminants, replacing it with fresh chlorinated water.

According to news release from the city on Friday, 12 samples were taken from the original area and tested at a lab in Omaha. All samples — 10 from where the positive test occurred, one from the northwest quadrant and another from the northeast quadrant — came back negative, the release states.

While this is good news, the boil water order is still active.

Residents who talked to 6 News said they’ve just been rolling with it.

“Blair’s had a tough time this spring,” Donna Jones said. “We’ve been hit by four or five pretty bad storms. We’ve all got claims on our houses, so it’s just one more thing. You’ve got to get through it, and this too shall pass.”

Another resident who didn’t want to be named said it has not been that much of an inconvenience, and it’s just something they have to get through.

The city did another round of testing Friday. Officials expect to have those results Saturday.

Officials added they are already talking with the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy about when they can give the town the “all clear” notice.

City administrator Phil Green told 6 News, at this time, he believes the E. coli contamination may have been caused by a lack of water flow in the water main that runs along Highway 75. He doesn’t think it’s directly related to the recent flood.
