IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - An Iowa Hawkeyes wide receiver was arrested after police say he was driving while under in the influence of alcohol and had a fake driver’s license.

In a criminal complaint, police said Kaleb Brown, 20, was arrested in the 400 block of South Van Buren Street at 2:25 a.m. on Sunday.

The complaint says Brown was seen driving a vehicle with heavy front end damage, including a wheel that was turned completely sideways. Police said Brown then backed the vehicle onto a lawn and began spinning the tires.

Brown allegedly had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Brown faces charges of OWI and Possession of Fictitious License, ID Card or Form.

The University of Iowa released a statement Monday afternoon following his arrest.

“Brown is subject to established university protocol regarding the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations set for members of the football program.”

The release also stated “Brown, a junior wide receiver from Chicago, caught 22 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last year for the Hawkeyes.”
