‘We expect to be ranked’: Rhule talks reaction to the Huskers’ ranking and night game atmosphere
LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule spoke to the media Monday morning, 24 hours after the No. 23 Huskers broke into the rankings for the first time since 2019. The jump into the Top 25 comes after the Big Red downed rival Colorado 28-10 on Saturday.
“I think there is so much on the film from this past game that we have to get corrected and get better at and that speaks for itself,” said Rhule in his weekly Monday media availability. “You come here to have high expectations. You come here to play in big games. You come here to play in front of that crowd. All the reasons that you come here so we expect to be ranked. Whatever it is, 23rd or 24th that’s not where we want to end up. Go each week and we will see what happens.”
Nebraska is 2-0 to start the season for the first time in seven seasons with a chance to go 3-0 with a win over Northern Iowa this Saturday.
“Now you are facing the number four rushing offense in FCS. You are facing 298 yards a game. You are facing a coach in Coach (Mark) Farley that has won a ton of games,” said Rhule.
The battle with the Panthers is the second of three straight night games for the Huskers. Historically, Nebraska has faired very well under the lights at Memorial Stadium, going 51-10 in home night games.
“I think for us, night games are a weapon. It’s an absolute weapon,” said Rhule. “I had to ask Jay (Terry) to get noise-canceling headsets because I cannot hear on defense. ‘Do you want a timeout?’ I can’t hear, that’s how loud it is. I say that because it’ll help us win.”
Nebraska hosts the Panthers in their first-ever meeting on Saturday, September 14th. Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
