Early voting ballots mailed for November election
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The election commissions for Douglas and Sarpy counties said Monday that early voting ballots will be mailed over the course of the next few days.
According to a news release from the Douglas County Commissioner’s office, they are distributing around 85,000 ballots. Households that requested multiple ballots at the same time should wait a few days to receive all their ballots.
“If a voter received a green postcard ballot application and they intend to vote by mail, submitting now is recommended,” Election Commissioner Brian W. Kruse said in the release. “The earlier we receive and process it, the sooner the voter’s ballot is mailed.”
Those who requested an early ballot can check the status of their application online. The deadline to submit an application is 6 p.m. on October 25, and ballots will be mailed every day until that date.
“I would like to remind voters that their ballots must be returned in the official return envelope provided, and the envelope must be signed,” Sarpy County Election Commissioner Emily Ethington said in her release on Monday.
Early in-person voting for Douglas County voters will begin on Oct. 7 at the Douglas County Election Commission Office. Business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The statewide election will be held on Nov. 5. Polling places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find out where they can vote via the DCEC website, or through 402-442-8683.
In light of Nebraska’s Voter ID law, voters must present a valid ID at their respective polling place, or through their early ballot application.
