Omaha Police hold press conference concerning officer-involved shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Omaha Police Department held a press conference Sunday concerning an officer-involved shooting that took place Wednesday.

On Thursday, OPD confirmed that Officer Adam Vail shot Cameron Ford, 37, at an Omaha residence near 78th and Redick Avenue around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Ford was taken to the hospital in critical condition following the shooting, and died shortly thereafter.

OPD and Federal authorities were serving a search warrant for firearms and narcotics at the residence. According to the statement, SWAT was there to assist due to the suspect’s criminal history.

After the shooting, officers located a firearm an narcotics in the residence, according to their statement.

According to their statement, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol are assisting the Omaha Police Department Involved Investigations Team with the investigation.

“Omaha is a tremendous city,” said Police Chief Todd Schmaderer. “Its a great place, one of the safest cities in this country and the reason it is is because we have good community to police relations.”
