Omaha City Council president seeking re-election in 2025
If re-elected, Pete Festersen will become longest serving member in Omaha history
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - In a release Tuesday, Pete Festersen announced that he is seeking re-election to the Omaha City Council in 2025.
Festersen has been on the council since 2009. According to a release, he has served three terms as president: 2013-2015, 2021-2023, and his current, 2023-2025.
A release states that if re-elected, Festersen will become the “longest-serving city council member in Omaha history.”
“I’m proud of my record of steady leadership and strong results,” Festersen said. “I’ll continue to focus on property tax reduction, public safety, and reinvesting in our neighborhoods and will provide the leadership necessary to implement citywide affordable housing and climate change action plans.”
The Omaha mayor’s race will also be next year, with Jean Stothert running for a fourth term. Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing and community activist Jasmine Harris are also running for mayor.
